Giovanni Somma is an accomplished maritime professional with extensive experience in technical operations and engineering within the cruise industry. Currently serving as the Director of New Build - Engine & R&D for MSC Cruises since February 2023, Giovanni previously held key positions at Virgin Voyages as Site Team Manager and Machinery Inspector from January 2018 to January 2023. Prior experience includes Technical Training Director at IMAT, overseeing technical courses and staff, as well as Director of Technical Operations and various engineering roles at Princess Cruises from 2003 to 2016. Giovanni's career began as an Engine Boy at MSC Company and includes military service as a Military Officer responsible for vehicle maintenance in the Italian Army. Giovanni holds a degree from the Nautical Institute “Nino Bixio” in Naples, Italy.
