Samantha Michaels is a seasoned journalist with extensive experience in criminal justice reporting and editorial roles. Currently serving as a Senior Criminal Justice Reporter at Mother Jones since December 2014, Samantha focuses on policing, prisons, gun violence, and issues related to racism and sexism within the criminal justice system. Prior experience includes copy editing and reporting for Mother Jones, as well as covering significant topics such as politics and human rights for The Irrawaddy in Myanmar. Samantha's freelance work spans various prestigious publications, including the Atlantic and Conde Nast Traveler. A graduate of Northwestern University with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, Samantha was recognized as the valedictorian in 2011.
