Carlton B. Washington of Rember, SC is the son of the late Jesse and Geneva Dennis Washington, both 1948 graduates of Morris College. Mr. Washington attended the public schools of Sumter Schools District 2, graduating from Hillcrest High School in 1982. After graduating from South Carolina State University (Academic Scholar) in 1986, Washington served as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve and National Guard.
Currently, Mr. Washington is the Chief Executive Officer of the South Carolina State Employees Association (SCSEA). The SCSEA was organized in 1946 to advance the welfare of state employees and retirees. Mr. Washington represents the association in all public and private forums which include testifying before the South Carolina General Assembly committees/sub-committees and all chapter, agency, and community forums.
Mr. Washington is a former South Carolina Deferred Compensation Commissioner for the South Carolina Retirement System. He currently serves as Second Vice President of the Sumter Branch NAACP. Other affiliations include Sumter County Sherriff's Office Community Advisory Board, National Council of Negro Women, Alzheimer's Association, ALS Association, American Legion, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc.
