Tariq Malik has extensive work experience in the field of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Tariq currently holds the position of 2nd VP, Chief DE&I Officer at Securian Financial, where they lead the development and execution of the company's DEI strategy. Prior to joining Securian Financial, Tariq worked at Target for over 15 years in various roles related to DEI. Tariq served as the Director of Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion, where they led a team responsible for Target's DEI strategy and operations. Tariq also designed and implemented a data insights approach to guide Target's DEI strategy and set enterprise-wide goals. Tariq achieved remarkable results by engineering the diversity survey process, leading Target to be recognized as one of the top companies for diversity. Additionally, Tariq built and led Target's first-ever Diversity Analytics team, responsible for transforming HR data into actionable insights. Throughout their career, they have demonstrated expertise in areas such as employee relations, diversity analytics, pay equity strategy, and HR process consulting. Tariq's work experience also includes roles at the New England Culinary Institute, Schwartz Communications, Teach for America, Americorps, and NCCC - AmeriCorps.
Tariq Malik attended Hamline University for Elementary Education and Teaching, starting in 2005. Prior to that, they obtained a BA in International Communications from The George Washington University, where they studied from 1992 to 1997. Tariq completed their high school education at Westford Academy from 1988 to 1992. Tariq also holds a certification in Diversity & Inclusion for HR from eCornell, which was obtained in 2023.
