Craig Gustafson serves as the Legal Counsel Division Director for the Minnesota Judicial Branch since October 2024. Prior experience includes roles as Chief Counsel at the Minnesota Department of Transportation from November 2017 to October 2024, and as General Counsel at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development from November 2014 to October 2017. Gustafson held the position of Appeals Operations and Legal Affairs Director and Chief Unemployment Law Judge for the State of Minnesota from August 2007 to October 2017, and worked as an Attorney/Senior Assistant Revisor of Statutes for the Minnesota Legislature from November 1995 to August 2007. Early career experience includes serving as an Unemployment Law Judge for the State of Minnesota in 2000 and gaining initial legal experience as a Law Clerk at the Ramsey County Public Defender's Office in 1993-1994. Educational achievements include a Juris Doctor from Cornell Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in History from Gustavus Adolphus College.
