Heather Harmer has a diverse work experience in various organizations. From 2003 to 2005, they worked as a Membership Director at the YMCA of the Greater Twin Cities. From 2005 to 2012, they served as a Manager at Special Olympics Minnesota. Following this, they worked as an Executive Director at Highland Friendship Club from 2012 to 2015. From 2015 to 2021, they held the position of Senior Regional Health Manager at Special Olympics. Currently, they work as the Director of Events and Education at the Minnesota Hospital Association, starting in December 2021.

Heather Harmer pursued their Bachelor's Degree in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, completing their education between 1996 and 2000.
