John Canady, M.S., M.D., D.Sc. (hon) has a long and distinguished career in the medical field. John began their career in 1990 as a Professor of Plastic Surgery at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where they were involved in clinical care of patients, research, and teaching of medical students, residents, and fellows. John also held several administrative positions, including the position of Senator on the Faculty Senate. In 2008, they were elected Past President of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
In 2011, they joined Johnson & Johnson/Mentor as a Medical Director, where they lead the Clinical Department and provided strategic oversight of the Professional Education Department. John was also involved in medical device project design, development, and implementation, and provided career development for those associates reporting to him. In 2012, they were promoted to Medical Safety Officer (MSO) at Johnson & Johnson/Mentor. In 2014, they were promoted again to Group Medical Director at Johnson & Johnson/Mentor/Acclarent. In 2015, they were promoted to both Head of Medical Affairs and Vice President and Franchise Medical Lead at Johnson & Johnson, Cardiovascular & Specialty Solutions Group.
In 2021, they retired from Johnson and Johnson and began working as a Business Consultant at KitoTech Medical, Inc. | microMend\u00ae.
John Canady, M.S., M.D., D.Sc. (hon) completed their Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Grinnell College in 1980. John then went on to pursue a medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine, which they completed in 1983. John then completed a residency in Otolaryngology from the same university in 1988, and also obtained a Master of Science in Science from the same university during this time. Following this, they completed a residency in Plastic Surgery from The University of Kansas in 1990. In 2008, they were awarded an honorary Doctor of Science from Grinnell College.
