Scott first learned about programming by reading about game development in Visual Basic. He was soon impressing friends and family with simple command-line “games” that would receive snarky responses. This led him, filled with excitement, toward a bachelor of science degree in computer science at Grand Valley State University. While there, he learned the importance of the planning and design of the user interface. As the saying goes, “Good design doesn’t happen by accident.”
After graduation, Scott started as a software engineer at Dematic working largely in T-SQL, HTML, and CoffeeScript. This is when he realized his passion for understanding what users want and giving it to them; these were essentially the same challenges as game development, only with a few less aliens. Today, Scott is excited to continue his career at MichiganLabs, where he gets to work on new and intriguing projects daily.
