John W. Elliott has an extensive work experience in the field of technology and financial services. John W. currently holds the position of Chief Technology Officer at MFA Financial since March 2017. Prior to that, they were the Head of Back Office Transformation Technology for the Americas at NatWest from February 2016 to February 2017.

Elliott started their career in technology management at Standard & Poor's in 2003 and Capgemini in 2000. John W. worked as a Senior Director and Head of IT Program Management at Standard & Poor's and a Senior Manager of Financial Services and Information Technology at Capgemini.
Before their positions at Standard & Poor's and Capgemini, Elliott worked in senior technology officer roles at Ernst & Young, LLP from 1997 to 2000, Chase Manhattan Corporation from 1996 to 1997, and Chemical Banking Corporation from 1994 to 1996.
John W. Elliott pursued their undergraduate studies from 1987 to 1991 at Hamilton College. During this period, they obtained a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree with a focus on History and Economics. In 1990, they participated in a Study Abroad Program at the University of Oxford, specializing in European History and Economics.
