Mahesh Balakrishnan is a seasoned software engineer with extensive experience in various technology roles. Currently, Mahesh is employed at Meta as a Software Engineer since January 2025. Previously, Mahesh held the position of Senior Principal Engineer at Confluent from January 2022 to November 2024 and served as a Software Engineer at Facebook from July 2017 to November 2021, where Mahesh notably created and led the Delos system, expanding the team from 3 to over 30 engineers. Prior to these roles, Mahesh was an Associate Professor at Yale University and held positions at VMware as a Senior Researcher and at Microsoft Research as a Researcher. Mahesh earned a PhD in Computer Science from Cornell University and a BS in Computer Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
