Jaap Haitsma has extensive experience in technology and leadership roles in the media and entertainment industry. Jaap is currently working at Merapar as the Technology Principal & General Manager Americas since August 2022. Prior to that, they held the position of CTO at NAGRA Anti Piracy Services & NexGuard from September 2017 to July 2022. Before joining NAGRA, they served as the CTO at NexGuard from November 2014 to September 2017.

Haitsma also has a notable tenure at Civolution, where they worked from October 2008 to July 2016 as the CTO. Civolution was a leading provider of watermarking and fingerprinting technology for audio and video, and Haitsma played a crucial role in its achievements, including providing forensic watermarking products to major movie studios, deploying forensic watermarking technology in over 100,000 digital cinemas worldwide, and operating the largest video broadcast monitoring network. Jaap also contributed to the development of audio watermarking technology for TV audience measurement in multiple countries.

Additionally, Haitsma has been involved in various advisory and mentoring roles. Jaap served as a Mentor at Start-Up Chile from June 2014 to June 2015 and was an Advisory Board Member at Splitcast Technology from April 2011 to September 2013. Furthermore, Haitsma was a Foundation Member of GNOME from 2003 to June 2012.

Earlier in their career, Haitsma worked at Philips Content Identification in multiple roles. Jaap served as CTO from December 2007 to October 2008, Chief Technologist from July 2004 to November 2007, and Research Scientist from September 1997 to June 2004.

Jaap Haitsma began their education by earning a Bachelor's degree in Electronics from NHL Hogeschool, which they completed from 1993 to 1997. Jaap further pursued their studies and obtained a Master's degree in Electronics from Eindhoven University of Technology from 1999 to 2002.

In addition to their formal education, Jaap Haitsma has obtained several certifications. Jaap earned the Professional Agile Leadership™ I (PAL I) certification from Scrum.org in October 2022. In the same month and institution, they also obtained the Professional Scrum Master™ I (PSM I) and Professional Scrum Product Owner™ I (PSPO I) certifications.

Furthermore, they acquired the Google Kubernetes Engine: Beginner to Pro certification from A Cloud Guru | A Pluralsight Company in August 2020. Jaap also holds various certifications from Amazon Web Services (AWS), including the AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty, AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate, and Associate Cloud Engineer certifications, which they obtained in June 2021, October 2020, and January 2021, respectively. Additionally, they achieved the Professional Cloud Architect certification from Google in January 2021.
