Hanan Heakal

Hanan Heikal is a board member at Meedan. Hanan was previously a scholar in residence at American University in Cairo, where they led a graduate level workshop on Social Media Translation and delivered two public lectures on social media translation and the history of translation technology. Hanan has also been an invited member of Partners for a New Beginning, a non-partisan, non-profit organization established to harness private sector and civil society resources to advance the vision President Obama laid out in their Cairo speech in June 2009 of renewed engagement with Muslims around the world based on mutual respect and responsibility. In addition, they have served as co-chair of the United States Palestinian Partnership and as a participant in Open Translation Tools Amsterdam 2009. Heikal is also the founding executive director of The People's Opinion Project and the founder and board chair of Community School of Teton Valley.

Hanan Heikal attended Carleton College where they received a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. Hanan then went on to Wayzata High School.
