Michael Barbeau has a diverse background in environmental research and field work. Michael started their career as a Field Technician at Parsons Corporation, where they conducted Phase I and II site assessments and managed safety programs. Michael then worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Alberta, conducting field studies in remote peatland systems and measuring carbon dioxide flux. For their next role at the University of Alberta, Michael focused on freshwater lake systems, performing hydroacoustic surveys and specimen dissections. Michael then gained experience as a Fisheries Technician, first with the Government of Alberta and then with Basin Environmental Ltd. Currently, they are an Aquatic Biologist-in-Training at Matrix Solutions Inc.
Michael Barbeau completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Conservation Biology from the University of Alberta, which they attended from 2014 to 2018. Prior to that, they obtained a Diploma in Environmental Reclamation Technician from Medicine Hat College, where they studied from 2008 to 2010.
