Kathy Thornburg

Advisor at MathBRIX

Kathy Thornburg is currently an advisor at MathBRIX. Kathy was previously the assistant commissioner of early and extended learning at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education from January 2010 to December 2013. In this role, they worked with the Missouri Board of Education to promote early childhood and after-school programs. Kathy also has extensive experience as a professor and director. Kathy was a professor at the University of Missouri from January 1980 to December 2018 and directed the Child Development Lab and the Center for Family Policy & Research. Kathy has conducted numerous research and evaluation projects throughout their career, as well as programs that support the early childhood workforce. Kathy has published over 100 research articles, book chapters, and books. Kathy is currently the Director of the Institute for Professional Development, which provides training on the Emerging Language and Literacy Curriculum and the Devereux Center for Resilient Children workshops.

Kathy Thornburg received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Child Development from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
