Chief, Communications And Public Relations at Maryland Environmental Service

Sharon Merkel has a diverse work experience spanning over three decades. Sharon started their career as a Production Assistant at Associated Press Broadcast Services in 1990 before moving on to WJLA-TV in 1991, where they worked as a Production Assistant. In 1992, they joined CTNA Telecommunications as an Associate Producer, handling various aspects of television production. From 1995 to 2004, Sharon worked at the University of Maryland, College Park as a Senior Producer, producing television programming and promoting the university's message. In 2006, they became a self-employed Communications Consultant, developing marketing and communications strategies for non-profit clients. Lastly, since 2014, Sharon has been working at Maryland Environmental Service, where they initially served as a Lead Communications Specialist and currently holds the position of Chief, Communications and Public Relations. In this role, they manage communications strategies, utilizes various platforms, and creates engaging content to promote the agency's services and products.

Sharon Merkel attended Salisbury University from 1986 to 1990, where they earned a degree in Communications. Sharon also obtained a Continuing Education Certificate in Web Page, Digital/Multimedia, and Information Resources Design from Anne Arundel Community College.
