Gabe Shtern is an experienced actuarial and data operations leader, currently serving as the Head of Actuarial Data Operations and Director at Markel since September 2010. Shtern collaborates with global property underwriting leadership to enhance technical underwriting, profitability, and portfolio management. Key contributions include rationalizing cyber rating, leading the adoption of a central rating system, and developing performance metrics for underwriting modifications. Prior roles include Director of IT, Pricing & Reserving Applications at Markel, where Shtern led a development team and delivered several significant applications. Earlier career experiences include senior management roles in ceded reinsurance at Travelers Insurance and consultancy at Deloitte & Touche, as well as various positions at Zurich Re/Converium. Gabe holds a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science and Information Systems from NYU Stern School of Business and an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of Toronto - Rotman School of Management.
