Ahmad Tajuddin Ali

Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, aged 74, a Malaysian, male, was appointed to the Board of the Company as an Independent Non-Executive Chairman on 1 January 2022. He is also the Chairman of the Board Nomination and Remuneration Committee.

Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (P.Eng) and holds fellowships in a few other engineering institutions or organizations. He graduated with First Class Honours in Mechanical Engineering from King’s College, University of London in 1973 and obtained his doctorate in Nuclear Engineering from Queen Mary College, University of London in 1977. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin did his post-doctoral work in nuclear engineering at Oregon State University (1977-1978) and at Pennsylvania State University (1978).

Earlier in his career, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin had served as the Director-General of Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia ("SIRIM"), then the Chairman and Chief Executive of the national power company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad, and later, as the Chairman of the Energy Commission of Malaysia, the Chairman of the Construction Industry Development Board of Malaysia ("CIDB") and the President of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia. In the private sector, he had also served as the Chairman of Gas Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., UEM Group Berhad, UEM Sunrise Berhad, PLUS Expressways International Berhad, Zelan Berhad, Tricubes Berhad, Opus Group Berhad, Opus International Limited and Sime Engineering Services Berhad. Previously, he was also a director of Sime Darby Berhad.

Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin has been actively involved in several companies and statutory bodies in various capacities. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Board of Optimax Holdings Berhad, Linde Malaysia Holdings Berhad and SIRIM Berhad. He is also a member of the Board of Institute Integrity Malaysia ("IIM"), Joint-Chairman (Government) of Aerospace Malaysia Innovation Centre ("AMIC") and Joint-Chairman (Industry) of the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology ("MIGHT"), a government-Industry think-tank for promoting High Technology investments in Malaysia.

Currently, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin is a member of the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority ("NCIA") and a member of the Advisory Council of Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM). He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Mahathir Science Award Foundation, Yayasan Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka ("UTeM") and a member of the Board of Governors of The Malay College Kuala Kangsar, his alma mater.

In the academic sector, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin is currently the Pro-Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) and Chairman of the Board of UTeM.

Over the years, Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin has been conferred with a number of Honorary Doctorate Degrees in Science, Engineering and Management by various public and private universities in Malaysia.

Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ir. Ahmad Tajuddin is also a recipient of the Order of The Rising Sun award from the Government of Japan for his contribution towards enhancing exports of Malaysian products and promoting economic relations between Japan and Malaysia.
