Guy Bayes is currently the Senior Director of Data at Lyft. Prior to this, they held the same position at the company from June 2017 to June 2020. In this role, they were responsible for all aspects of data and analytics engineering, including both batch and real-time data platforms.
During their time at Lyft, Guy's team scaled the company's data volume and usage by a factor of 100. They also changed the way Lyft created and consumed data, moving from 24-hour batch reporting to five-minute latency reporting. In addition, they introduced open source technologies such as Hive, Presto, Spark, Kafka, and Flink, and retired an obsolete and underperforming data stack.
Most notably, Guy and their team created and open sourced Amundsen and Flyte - two successful open source projects that filled important gaps in the open source data ecosystem. They also completed the Lyft IPO, including all regulatory work, and supported every data user at the company from product to engineering to HR. Lastly, Guy played a key role in revamping Lyft's core hiring, diversity and inclusion, and employee calibration processes.
