Elizabeth Simmons, Ed.D., currently serves as a Middle School Humanities Teacher and History Department Chair at LREI, a position held since September 2017. Prior to this role, Elizabeth was a Doctoral Candidate at the University of Pennsylvania from September 2014 to May 2019 and taught 8th Grade Humanities at The American School of Barcelona during the 2013-2014 academic year, focusing on curriculum development in a 1:1 laptop environment. Elizabeth's experience at LREI also includes piloting a 1:1 iPad program and co-facilitating the Middle School Students of Color initiative while coaching the Middle School girls' basketball team. Previous teaching positions include 8th Grade Humanities and 11th Grade English at East Side Community High School and assistant teaching roles at Trevor Day School. Elizabeth holds a Doctor of Education degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master’s in Political Science and Political Philosophy from Tufts University, and a Bachelor's degree in African American Studies and Government from Wesleyan University.
