Aiyla Balakumar, AIA, currently serves as the Deputy Director of Architecture & Engineering at the Los Angeles Unified School District since October 2017, following a tenure as a Senior Project Manager. Prior to this role, Aiyla worked at AECOM as an Architect & Project Manager from July 2012 to October 2017 and began at Cannon Design as an Architectural Designer from May 2010 to June 2012. Aiyla's experience also includes positions at Robert A.M. Stern Architects, the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, and O'Neil Langan Architects, focusing on various design sectors including healthcare and high-end residential and retail design. Aiyla holds a Master of Architecture from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Computer Science from Barnard College.
