James Wang has worked in a variety of roles since 2008. James started their career as the Founder and Lead Consultant at SEEDS Consulting, a consulting group for nonprofits, from 2008 to 2010. James then moved to Bridgewater Associates as a Senior Analyst and Investment Associate from 2010 to 2013. In 2013, they became a Recurser at the Recurse Center, where they developed a computer vision algorithm for discovering embedded duplicate images, a desktop text editor, and various AIs for constrained games. James also co-founded Lioness, a women's health product company, in 2013. In 2014, they took on the role of Product Marketing Manager at X, the moonshot factory, where they led a cross-functional team across engineering, operations, legal, PR, and policy at Google[x] on planning and executing launch announcement for Makani's first utility-scale energy kite pilot. Finally, they took on the role of General Partner at Creative Ventures in 2016.

James Wang has an extensive educational background. James obtained their Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics and Philosophy from Dartmouth College in 2010. James then went on to pursue a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, which they completed in 2015. In the same year, they began a Master of Science (M.S.) in Computer Science at the Georgia Institute of Technology, which they completed in 2020. In addition, James also holds three certificates: Data Science Specialization with John Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health from Coursera Verified Certificates (2014), Law and the Entrepreneur with Northwestern Law from Coursera Verified Certificates (2013), and Group 2 Social/Behavioral Research Investigators and Key Personnel from CITI Program (2019).
