John co-founded and led the Synlait Group from 2000 until 2018, building the company from start-up, through to listing on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. He continues to contribute to the governance of the company as a board appointed director.

Prior to founding Synlait, John had a successful career as a scientist with a focus on dairy farming innovation. John commenced his career in the dairy industry as a consulting officer for the New Zealand Dairy Board before joining Dexcel as a research scientist where he completed a PhD in animal science.
