John Bouwens has over three decades of work experience in software development and project management. John began their career at KLM in 1982 as a Project Engineer, where they were responsible for developing and maintaining simulators. This involved software modeling, hardware development, and project management tasks. In 1989, they joined Solutions and Projects bv as a Software Developer and Project Manager, specializing in educational, technical, financial, and healthcare systems. Notably, they developed a nationwide administrative system for neonatal hearing screening for the NSDSK. Currently, Bouwens is working full-time as a Software Development Engineer at Muiswerk Educatief, where they have been since 2016.

John Bouwens attended Delft University of Technology from 1976 to 1982, where they obtained a degree in Electrical Engineering. The degree they earned at Delft was an "Ir" degree.
