Laila Alawa is the CEO and founder of The Tempest, an award-winning digital media and technology company launched in 2016 that empowers women globally. Alawa also serves as the podcast host for Don’t Get Us Started, discussing various life topics and current events. As CEO and co-founder of LAILA + HUDA since 2018, Alawa leads a fine jewelry brand focused on handcrafted luxury without traditional retail markups. Additional roles include keynote speaker with Keppler Speakers and scholar with the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding. Alawa's prior experience includes communication specialist for the U.S. Congress, volunteer special project advisor for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, research and development specialist at Princeton University, and assistant producer for PBS. Alawa holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and Education Studies from Wellesley College and a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship from the University of Cambridge.
