Matthias W. is an experienced HPC Architect at EPFL (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne) since February 2018, specializing in optimizing software performance and I/O while transitioning computations to the cloud. Leading a team of up to eight developers, Matthias has a strong background in Big Data Software Engineering, enhancing algorithms and scaling applications significantly. Prior to EPFL, Matthias served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the University of Notre Dame from 2011 to 2018, where contributions included designing a workflow management tool for high-throughput computing and supporting software for the CMS experiment. Matthias holds a Ph.D. in High Energy Physics from the University of Notre Dame and a Diplom-Physiker in the same field from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT).
