John J. Thiel

With over 40 years of voluntary service to the JSC Federal Credit Union, John Thiel is passionate about the Credit Union philosophy and the overriding principle of “people helping people.” John began his volunteer service through the Credit Committee and Chair of the Loan Review Committee. He has been an active Board member for 34 years. As a Board member, John is committed to maximizing member experience and satisfaction as well as their financial stability.

John has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Houston Clear Lake, is a Certified Professional Contracts Manager, and is a FELLOW of the National Contract Management Association.

John retired in 1998 after a distinguished 37-year career with the Johnson Space Center (JSC) where, for the majority of that time, he managed contract and budget organizations. John began his tenure with NASA Space Task Group, the first 350 individuals to transition from Langley Air Force Base to Houston to begin the establishment of the Manned Spacecraft Center, later named JSC. He received the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, JSC Certificate of Commendation, Group Achievement Awards, and numerous Outstanding Performance Awards.
