Pirita Paajanen

Senior Bioinformatician at John Innes Centre

Pirita Paajanen is a highly experienced bioinformatician and educator with a strong background in plant genomics and computational biology. Currently serving as a Senior Bioinformatician at John Innes Centre and as a Docent of Plant Genomics at the University of Helsinki, Pirita focuses on population genomics in polyploid plant species. Previous roles include Computational Biologist positions at both the John Innes Centre and The Genome Analysis Centre, emphasizing plant genome assembly and polyploid genomics, as well as postdoctoral research in ancient DNA at The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. Pirita's academic journey includes an Academy of Finland Postdoctoral Fellowship and a lecturer role at the University of Southampton. Educational qualifications consist of a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematics from the University of Oxford, a Certificate of Advanced Study in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, and a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from the University of Oxford.
