Ooi Kee Beng is an accomplished academic and executive with extensive experience in research and education. Currently serving as Executive Director at Penang Institute since September 2009, Ooi oversees a state-funded think tank and also contributes as the Editor of Penang Monthly, where editorial duties include writing, editing, and profiling prominent personalities. At ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, Ooi has held the positions of Deputy Director and Senior Fellow since 2011 and 2004, respectively, focusing on social scientific research related to Malaysia and Southeast Asia. Previous roles encompass a Deputy Directorship and Visiting Associate Professorship at City University of Hong Kong and an Adjunct Associate Professorship at the National University of Singapore, alongside part-time lectureships at Stockholm University. Ooi holds a PhD in Sinology from Stockholm University and A Levels in English Language and Literature from St Xavier's Institution, Penang.
