Robert Blackburn has a diverse work experience. Robert started their career as a Summer Intern at Pilkington in 2007 and then worked as a Summer Intern at Ionotec Ltd in 2008. From 2011 to 2015, they worked part-time as an Academic Tutor at the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge, where they tutored undergraduate students and demonstrated lab projects. In 2015, they joined Exa Corporation as an Application Engineer until 2017. Since 2018, they have been working at iotaSciences, initially as an Engineer and currently as the Lead R&D Engineer.

Robert Blackburn received a BA (Hons) and an MEng in Aerospace and Aerothermal Engineering from the University of Cambridge from 2006 to 2010. Robert then pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Engineering, specializing in Aero-engine combustion, from the same university from 2010 to 2015.
