Mary Hackett has a diverse work experience in the education field. Mary started their career as a Special Education Teacher at the New York City Department of Education from September 2011 to June 2012. Mary then joined the Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School, where they held various roles over the years. Mary worked as a Special Education Teacher from July 2012 to July 2013, Humanities Teacher from July 2013 to March 2017, and High School Director of School Culture from March 2016 to June 2017. From July 2017 to July 2022, they served as the High School Principal, and currently, Mary holds the position of Director of School Culture and Leadership Development, K-12, at the Inwood Academy for Leadership Charter School.

Mary Hackett holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University. Mary also has a Bachelor of Arts degree in History, Sociology, and Anthropology from Guilford College.
