Jim Smith has a strong work history, starting in 1993 with their role as Assistant Vice President at Fifth Third Bank. Jim then moved on to become the Secretary and Treasurer at Mid Atlantic Capital Corporation in 2000. In 2004, they became the Chief Financial Officer at First Trinity Financial Corporation. Finally, in 2007, they joined Investors Heritage Life Insurance Company, initially as the Assistant Vice President of Corporate Development and later as the Vice President.

Jim Smith attended Centre College from 1980 to 1984, where they obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government. From 1985 to 1988, they studied at Salmon P. Chase College of Law, earning a Juris Doctor degree.
