Charles Lewis is a distinguished Professor of Journalism at American University, where responsibilities include teaching courses in In-Depth Journalism and International Investigative Journalism since September 2006. Promoted to full professor with tenure in December 2009, Lewis also serves as the Executive Editor of the Investigative Reporting Workshop, focusing on multimedia investigative journalism since June 2006. As the founding President of The Fund for Independence in Journalism from January 2005 to December 2008, Lewis helped establish a crucial support organization for journalistic integrity. Additionally, Lewis founded the Center for Public Integrity and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, fostering significant advancements in cross-border investigative reporting from October 1989 to December 2004. Previous roles include producing for CBS News 60 Minutes and investigative reporting at ABC News. Lewis holds a Master’s degree in International Studies from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Delaware.
