Dr. Van Schepler-Luu currently serves as a Group Leader and Scientist II specializing in Plant Pathology and Host Plant Resistance at the International Rice Research Institute, focusing on rice diseases and the development of disease-resistant varieties through advanced genomic techniques. Previously, leadership roles included heading the Rice team at the University of Düsseldorf and managing a genome editing team, where significant contributions involved establishing a CRISPR-based genome editing platform. Dr. Van Schepler-Luu's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Ecology, with a focus on plant-microbe interactions, as well as a Master's degree in Molecular Biosciences from Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg. Research expertise spans genetic diversity and characterization of resistance mechanisms in rice, pathogen monitoring, microbiome interactions, and marker-assisted selection for disease resistance and yield enhancement.
