Sir Edward Clay is a seasoned diplomat and peacebuilding expert with extensive experience in governance, justice, and international relations. As a trustee for International Alert since May 2010, Clay contributes to independent peacebuilding initiatives. Additionally, as an advisory board member for the Governance and Justice Group and an associate at the Centre for Political and Diplomatic Studies, Clay engages in training on diplomacy and negotiation. Clay has also served as a patron for Excellent, focusing on water conservation efforts in Kenya, and as a committee member for both The Constant Gardener Trust and Resource-Oriented Development Initiatives, which work on prisoner rehabilitation in East Africa. Previously, Clay was a trustee for Leonard Cheshire Disability and enjoyed a distinguished career as a diplomat with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 1968 to 2005, including roles as British high commissioner to Uganda, Cyprus, and Kenya. Clay holds a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from the University of Oxford.
