Nicole's early career includes serving as a Fisheries Specialist II and Biological Research Intern with the State of Rhode Island, where significant work involved data collection and research on anadromous fish. Additionally, Nicole held the position of Senior Naturalist at the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, emphasizing environmental education.
