John Harden worked as a Lead Solution Architect at Insurity starting in 1999. John then transitioned to being self-employed in 2017 as a Square Dance Caller/Instructor. Prior to that, they were a Pastor at Dirty Feet Ministries starting in 2009.

John Harden attended Northern Seminary from 2006 to 2008, where they studied Divinity/Ministry. Prior to that, they attended the United States Military Academy at West Point from 1981 to 1985, where they focused on Computer Software Engineering. In addition to their education, they obtained a certification in "Confronting Bias: Thriving Across Our Differences" from LinkedIn in 2021.
