Member of the Board of Directors since 2008 and TIEE Board President as of January, 2014, Dr. Alvarado is Founding Dean of the College of Education at California State University Monterey Bay. Previously, Dr. Alvarado was Associate Dean in the College of Education at San Diego State University. He received his baccalaureate and Master’s degree from San Diego State University and his Ph.D. in Special Education from the University of Virginia.
Dr. Alvarado also holds California Learning Handicapped Specialist, a Multiple Subject Bilingual teaching credential and a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential. Prior to his work in higher education, Dr. Alvarado worked as a behavior specialist for a county mental health day treatment program for young children with emotional and behavioral disorders and served as an on-call crisis mental health counselor. He also taught in an elementary special education classroom for students with severe emotional and behavioral disabilities and worked as a Program Specialist/Behavior Specialist focused on special education program implementation and compliance for the Imperial County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) office.
