Naxos Laurent Petitgirard

orn in 1950, Laurent Petitgirard studied piano with Serge Petitgirard and composition with Alain Kremski.

Eclectic musician, his career as a composer of symphonic music, operas, and double chamber music from an important activity of conductor.

Musical Director of the French Symphony Orchestra from 1989 to 1996, he was elected Musical Director in 2005 by the musicians of the Orchester Colonne, a position he held until 2018.

Laurent Petitgirard's first opera, ”Joseph Merrick dit Elephant Man ”, to a libretto by Eric Nonn, was recorded with the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra and Nathalie Stutzmann (Naxos). Created in February 2002 at the Prague State Opera in a staging by Daniel Mesguich, the opera was performed at the Nice Opera in December 2002 (DVD Marco Polo).
