Ellyn Hughes

Analytical Development Scientist at Instil Bio

Ellyn Hughes has extensive experience in the field of immunology and research. Ellyn started their career as a Grant Panel Member at Wirral Borough Council, where they were involved in reviewing and allocating funds to young applicants. Ellyn then gained work experience as an Optical Assistant at Specsavers, where they were responsible for pre-screening patients, assisting with contact lens clinic, and dispensing glasses.

Ellyn's passion for research led their to pursue a Ph.D. at Cardiff University, focusing on treating metastatic disease by manipulating regulatory T cells. During their time as a Ph.D. student, they set up a new mouse model, optimized PET/CT imaging for metastasis detection, and developed murine surgery techniques.

Following their Ph.D., Ellyn joined Monash University as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Rossjohn Lab. Their research focused on Structural Immunology, specifically MHC II antigen presentation and TCR recognition. Ellyn gained expertise in protein expression and purification, molecular biology, and various immunology techniques.

Ellyn continued their research journey as a Postdoctoral Associate at the Cancer Research UK Manchester Institute. Here, they conducted research on cancer and contributed to projects related to analytical development.

Most recently, Ellyn secured a role as an Analytical Development Scientist at Instil Bio, where they apply their expertise in immunology and research to contribute to the development and analysis of biotechnological products.

Throughout their career, Ellyn has demonstrated a strong commitment to research and a passion for advancing the understanding and treatment of diseases.

Ellyn Hughes pursued their education in a sequential manner. From 2003 to 2010, they attended Wirral Grammar School for Girls. Following this, from 2010 to 2013, they enrolled at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd to earn a Bachelor of Science (BSc Hons) degree in Biochemistry. Ellyn then furthered their studies at Cardiff University from 2013 to 2017 and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Cancer Immunology.
