Swathy Sampath Kumar has a wealth of work experience. From 2019 to present, they have been a Senior R&D Engineer and R&D Engineer at Inscopix, Inc. From 2013 to 2019, they were a Graduate Research Assistant at Neural Microsystems Laboratory (PI: Dr. Jit Muthuswamy) and a Graduate Teaching Assistant at School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering at Arizona State University. In 2013, they were an Intern at Hamm Lab (PI: Dr. Thomas Hamm) at Barrow Neurological Institute. From 2010 to 2012, they were an Academic Tutor and Proctor at the Disability Resource Center at Arizona State University.

Swathy Sampath Kumar attended Anna University from 2006 to 2010 where they earned their Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Biomedical Engineering. Swathy then continued their education at Arizona State University and obtained their Master of Science (M.S.) in Biomedical Engineering in 2012. Finally, they completed their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biomedical Engineering at Arizona State University in 2018.
