Dr. Charles Leland Cooney (“Dr. Cooney”), an independent non-executive director of the company, is responsible for providing independent opinions and judgments to the board of directors. Dr. Cooney received his BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in June 1966, and his MS and PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in September 1967 and February 1970, respectively.

Dr. Cooney joined MIT in 1970 as an assistant professor and became a full professor in 1982. Dr Cooney's teaching focuses on bioprocess development and manufacturing and technological innovation, and his research areas include biochemical engineering and manufacturing. From 2002 to 2014, Dr. Cooney was the founding academic director of the Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation.

Dr. Cooney is an advisor to several biotech and pharmaceutical companies, and serves on the boards of private companies such as GreenLight Bioscience, Mitra Biotech, Mitra RxDx and LayerBio. He is also an advisor to the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART) Innovation Center. Dr. Cooney was previously an independent non-executive director of Polypore International (listed on Nasdaq, stock code: PPO) and Biocon Limited (listed on the New York Stock Exchange, stock code: BIOCON, and on the Bombay Stock Exchange, Stock code: 532523) is an independent non-executive director.
