Msizi Gumede has work experience in risk management, insurance, and auditing. Msizi has served as the Chief Risk Officer at Illovo Sugar since November 2016. Prior to that, they worked as the Group Insurance Manager at Illovo Sugar from December 2011 to October 2016. Before joining Illovo Sugar, they were a Portfolio Manager at Guardrisk Insurance Company Limited from August 2005 to November 2011. Msizi also worked as a Senior Internal Auditor at Liberty Life from January 2005 to July 2005.

Msizi Gumede completed their Bachelor of Commerce Honors in Accounting from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, where they attended from 1998 to 2001. Msizi later pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Risk Management at the University of South Africa/Universiteit van Suid-Afrika, which they completed in 2017. Currently, Msizi is pursuing a Master of Commerce in Applied Risk Management at the North-West University / Noordwes-Universiteit, which is expected to be completed in 2023.
