Alberto J. Cañas began their career in 1988 as the Director of the IBM Latin America Education Research Center. In 1989, they became an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of West Florida. In 1990, they took on the role of Associate Director at IHMC.
Alberto J. Cañas received their Ing. degree in Sistemas Computacionales from Tecnológico de Monterrey between 1972 and 1975. Alberto J. then went on to pursue a M.Math. degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo between 1979 and 1981. Finally, they completed their Ph.D. in Management Sciences from the University of Waterloo between 1981 and 1985.
