Darren Berns is an experienced technology and business development leader with a robust background in optical technologies, research, and engineering. Currently serving as Chief Technology Officer and Business Development Leader at IDEX Optical Technologies since March 2019, Darren has previously held significant roles including Chief Scientist/Principal Engineer and R&D Manager at Advanced Thin Films from 2010 to 2019, and Director of Development at Research Electro-Optics from 2000 to 2009. Early career highlights include a position as Staff Engineer at Arcturus Bioscience and R&D Propulsion Engineer at NASA Glenn Research Center. Darren holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University, along with a Master’s and Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, respectively.
