Fionnuala Word has worked in the tech industry since 2012. Fionnuala began their career at IBM as a Software Engineer, where they contributed to several Open Source projects, including the Linux kernel, rpm, and OpenCryptoki. Fionnuala also updated OpenSSL algorithms and CAVS drivers to enable FIPS 140-2 validation. In 2015, they joined Hypori Virtual Mobility as a Sr. DevOps Engineer and Security Software Developer.

Fionnuala Word attended The University of Texas at Austin from 2009 to 2012 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science.
