Afterward, from 1989 to 1991, Murphy pursued undergraduate coursework at San Diego Mesa College.

In pursuit of their passion for engineering, Murphy attended The University of Texas at Austin, where they earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Cockrell School of Engineering. This degree was obtained from 1991 to 1994.
