Monica Flores Richart, elected to Houston Community College Trustee for District I, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Policy from the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs. She received her Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law. She has been a member of the Texas Bar Association since 2000.
Trustee Richart began as an Attorney-associate for Locke Liddell & Sapp LLP and Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP. In 2006, she served as Constituent Outreach Director for Congressman Nick Lampson. Inspired by his commitment to service, she endeavored to serve the community through collaboration, and leadership. She also served as the Campaign Manager for Diane Trautman for Harris County Tax Assessor.
In 2009, Trustee Richart and husband Chris welcomed their son Atticus, followed by a daughter, Athena and their youngest, Augustus. She is grateful for finding her passion for education, which was the beginning of her advocacy for education in the Houston area. Trustee Richart has immersed herself in education issues - researching, reading, writing, and discussing ways to ensure that the promise of education is accessible for everyone in the community regardless of race, ethnicity, income level, or zip code.
In 2019, Trustee Richart served as the Director of Compliance for Harris County Clerk’s Office assisting with efforts leading to the introduction of countywide voting to Harris County, increased voting hours during early voting, and ensuring better accessibility at polling locations without compromising polling locations in underserved Black and Latino communities.
