John Yang has worked in various roles throughout their career. John started their professional journey as a Data Scientist/Analyst at PetroChina from January 2013 to December 2016. John then joined the University of Calgary as a Research Assistant in January 2017 and worked until August 2020. During their time at the university, John developed a global optimization and deep learning package using Python for analyzing complex shale oil/gas models. John also worked on an ETL automation pipeline software and obtained a national patent for it. From September 2020 to October 2022, John worked as a Postdoctoral Data Scientist at the University of Calgary. In this role, they developed a convolutional neural network package for analyzing oil seepage problems through satellite images and a deep learning package for analyzing gas/oil production in shale reservoirs. Currently, John is employed as a Machine Learning Engineer at Hifi, where they started in October 2022.
John Yang began their education journey in 2008 when they enrolled at China University of Petroleum. John pursued a Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, which they successfully completed in 2012. After that, they decided to further enhance their knowledge and skills by pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy - PhD at the University of Calgary. John devoted himself to the field of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering during their time there, completing the program in 2020.
