Biju Mathew has a diverse work experience. From 1996 to 2013, they worked at HelpAge India, where they held various roles including Director & State Head (Kerala) and Executive, Sr. Executive, Manager, Sr. Manager, Dy. Director, and Jt. Director. In 2014, they became a Member of the Governing Body at Prof.K.M.Chandy Foundation, focusing on inclusive development and implementing programs for democratic values. In 2012, they joined the Centre for Gerontological Studies as a Member of the Governing Council, organizing seminars on population aging in India. Additionally, in 2012, they served as a Member of the NGO TASK GROUP for the Government of Kerala, working on a plan of action to improve care institutions. Lastly, from 2017 to 2019, they worked as a Guest Faculty at the Kerala Institute of Local Administration (KILA).

Biju Mathew's education history begins with their SSLC degree from Rajagiri High School Kalamassery, which they completed from 1980 to 1986. Biju then pursued a Master's degree in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University, completing it from 1992 to 1994. Biju also completed a Pre-Degree (+2) program at Bharatha Matha College, Thrikkakara, and a Degree program at Maharajas College, Ernakulam, although the specific years of enrollment are unknown.

In addition to their formal education, Biju Mathew has obtained several certifications. Biju obtained a Fully Accredited Professional SPIRITUALITY COACH Diploma and a Professional Life Coach Certification from Udemy in May 2022. In March 2020, they received a Certificate on Covid 19 - Awareness and Management from Medvarsity Online Ltd. In January 2020, Biju completed the Introduction to Core Humanitarian Standard and SPHERE Handbook in Action courses offered by the Humanitarian Leadership Academy and Sphere - Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response, respectively. In December 2019, they completed the How to be a SPHERE Champion online module from Sphere - Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Humanitarian Response.

Prior to these certifications, Biju Mathew obtained several others as well. In February 2019, they completed the Internal Committee Capacity and Skill Building course from Rainmaker Online Training Solutions Private Limited. In December 2017, they participated in the International Programme in SOCIAL GERONTOLOGY offered by The UN International Institute on Ageing. In January 2014, Biju completed a MDP on Corporate Social Responsibility from the Centre for Social Initiative & Management (CSIM) in collaboration with Business & Community Foundation. Biju also obtained certifications in Geriatric Counselling from Tata Institute of Social Sciences in April 2013, Legal & Statutory Compliance from AccountAid India in January 2013, Community Participation in Palliative Care from the Indian Association Of Palliative Care in February 2008, and Dementia Care from the University of Wolverhampton in February 2003.
