Gerasimos Alivizatos studied at Athens College (x75). In 1979 he graduated from McGill University in Montreal, Canada (BSc in Physiology). He graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Athens in 1984 and in 1992 received the title of Urology specialty. He retrained for a year in Nijmegen, the Netherlands with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation. He served at the 2nd University Urology Clinic of the University of Athens at Sismanoglio Hospital from 1994 until 2008, when he retired with the rank of Associate Professor. Since September 2008, he has been the Director of the 3rd Urology Clinic at the HYGEIA Hospital.
From 1997 to 2011 he was a member and then President of the examination committee of the European Board of Urology (EBU). He was for seven years a member of the committee of the European Association of Urology (EAU), which elaborates and finally issues guidelines to all European Urologists on issues related to benign prostatic hyperplasia. He has authored and co-authored 67 papers cited in Pub Med and ten book chapters.
He is the president of the "Mantzavinatei" Public Beneficial Foundation of Kefalonia and the Vice-President of the Hellenic Urological Society. He is also a member of the "Friends of the HILL School" Association. In 2017 he was elected a member of the EEI Association and in November 2019 a member of its Board of Directors.
